With Bakersfield officially disbanded, Brian and bassist Randy DeBeers tried a couple of duo projects, but when Randy’s wife had the opportunity to continue her active-duty service stateside, the couple decided it was time to leave Germany. Far from jobless, Brian had plenty to do in the studio and occasionally sat in with his friends’ bands when the bug bit him. Mostly, he spent his extra time with his family.
Brian had met singer Rob Hawkins while playing with the Nightstalkers at the Rainbow NCO Club in Darmstadt. Rob was a talent that bassist Bruce Borowski had been grooming to take over the band’s singing duties before it broke up, and he now had a solo act that was doing pretty well. When he heard Brian was available, he hit Brian up about forming a duo a la Brooks and Dunn. Yeah, no. Brian was over covering other artists and countered with doing something original.
