Today, Musty Dungeon Studios (MDS) announced a new partnership with elasticStage.com, an on-demand mechanical media producer, to produce vinyl records and compact discs for its entire catalog, including all of Brian Walton‘s recordings. The joint venture follows a newly inked three-year deal with Netflix, under which the powerhouse production company was tasked with providing mechanical production services as part of its service portfolio.
ElasticStage is the world’s first on-demand vinyl and CD manufacturing platform, built for music creators and record labels to ship to over 90 countries worldwide. Since the traditional music distribution model collapsed in the 90s, driven by the internet, labels and distributors had to adapt to streaming-based business models, opening the door for independents to take over the market and putting record stores permanently out of business. In recent years, vinyl recordings have seen a massive resurgence, even surpassing compact disc sales, so ElasticStage stepped up to meet the demand.
Sony Entertainment distributed most of Brian Walton‘s recordings under the classic distribution model. After MDS negotiated the release of Brian’s catalog from Sony, it didn’t include the original stampers (used to stamp vinyl records) or artwork, which Sony still owned exclusively. Each streaming release required new artwork, which is why Brian Walton records or CDs from before 2020 are different from those today and are no longer available for purchase. Through our partnership with ElasticStage, we can once again offer all of Brian’s recordings on vinyl and CD, and the Mountaineer team is diligently creating new artwork and releasing them as fast as possible.
