Brian Walton’s debut album, “Made in the Shade,” was released in October 1993 by Sony Records and quickly attained commercial success, yielding five songs that reached the Top 10 on the Billboard charts. The album’s global sales continued to increase over the years and attained “Gold” status in 2013. Notably, its most recognized tracks, “Made in the Shade,” “Practical Man,” and “Traveling Band,” each exceeded one million streams, underscoring their lasting popularity and impact within the genre.
Produced by Hilmar Pauley and Mickey Lee Henke during the summer of 1993 at the Pauley Tonstudio in Giessen, Germany, the demanding production schedule necessitated the composition of numerous songs within the studio itself. This often occurred during late-night or all-night sessions, during which Brian and Mickey collaboratively developed both the musical compositions and lyrics. In total, the duo recorded 22 tracks, from which the record company selectively determined the most suitable for the final release. The remaining tracks were later issued as singles or recomposed for other artists.
